2014 Beijing Tourism Green Book: The situation of inbound tourism is not optimistic

Beijing Tourism Development Report 2014, a green book of Beijing tourism compiled by the Beijing Tourism Society and published by the Social Science Literature Press, was released on June 30. The report points out that in recent years, the number of inbound tourists in Beijing has been declining continuously due to multiple factors, and the decline in 2013 exceeded the national average, which has affected the realization of inbound tourism objectives of Beijing's "12th Five-Year Plan".

The Green Book points out that since 2008, the number of domestic tourists in Beijing has been steadily increasing, while the gap between the number of foreign tourists and the number of domestic tourists is large, the growth is slow and the trend is downward after 2012. For Beijing, the number of inbound tourists in 2013 was 4.501 million, down 10% year on year, accounting for less than 2% of Beijing's total tourist reception, which is far from the positioning of "World Tourism City".

At the same time, the Green Book pointed out that although the number of inbound tourists and the foreign exchange income of tourism declined year on year, in terms of quality and efficiency, the proportion of foreign exchange income of tourism in Beijing in 2013 was 4.2 times that of the number of tourists, and the per capita cost was 1065 US dollars, up 3.6% year on year. Among them, the consumption of shopping increased significantly, and inbound tourism is still the most contributing part of Beijing's tourism sector.
